February 16th, Thursday Massee Lane & Southern Charm
A stop at the orchards, a stroll in the gardens, and a delicious lunch are what is in store for you!
We are headed about an hour and a half south of Atlanta to Fort Valley. Our first stop at Lane Southern Orchards, where we'll browse the various pecan and peach products that Georgia is known for. Purchase a morning coffee and snack in the cafe, if you wish. Too hard to drive right past here without stopping in!
Then on to the main event where we'll experience one of the world's finest collections of beautiful camellia blooms at the height of their blooming season! February is full of color during the Festival of Camellias at Georgia's Massee Lane Gardens, home to the American Camellia Society. Massee Lane Gardens has nine acres of camellia plantings with brick walkways for strolling through the trees. An additional twenty-plus acres is devoted to specialty gardens and collections.
The Abendroth Japanese Garden, the Scheibert Rose Garden, and plantings of daffodils, daylilies, chrysanthemums, azaleas, flowering trees, and other annuals and perennials provide a variety of blooms throughout the year.
You have the freedom to choose a guided tour or explore on your own. We plan to spend 2 hours+ at Massee Lane. Either way is on foot!
Inside the Visitor Center is a gift shop, as well as museum galleries showcasing Edward Marshall Boehm porcelain sculptures in botanical, wildlife, religious and military themes.
2pm included meal will follow at The Swanson in Perry, GA, where fried chicken, collard greens, & other Southern classics are served in an inviting antebellum setting. You will order off menu with a large variety of options.
Non-refundable after January 23rd. You may find someone else to transfer your spot to after that point. As always, your driver and meal gratuities are included.
