We will have several fun stops today on our way to North Carolina! Jaemor Farms is an orchard and produce market along the way north of Gainesville, GA. You may bring a cooler along to stock up on apples, cider, or other items to take home with you. You can also purchase a sandwich, hot dog, or such for lunch to eat at one of the picnic tables.
A spectacular canyon of the eastern United States, Tallulah Gorge is 2 miles long and nearly 1000 ft deep. This State Park is a gorgeous place to visit, walk, and learn. Karl Wallenda made a famous tightrope walk across this gorge years ago. We'll have a relaxed couple of hours here to spend as you wish. Hundreds of steps and a suspension bridge lead to Hurricane Falls, for those who are up for some physical exertion. Or simply relax or take a stroll along the paths at the top of the gorge from the Visitor Center.
Onto a late afternoon/early evening meal at the Dillard House in Dillard, GA. People come from far and wide to eat here and take in the beautiful countryside and mountain views.
Our destination for the night is Dillsboro, North Carolina, where we have rooms overlooking the flowing river at the Best Western Plus - River Escape. Weather permitting, we can offer s'mores by the fire and time to visit with your friends, old and new.
Wake up refreshed to an included breakfast at the hotel before loading bus to head to Bryson City and board the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad steam engine 1702! This 1942 steam locomotive is one of only two like it remaining in the US! One of the first class dining cars will be ours to comfortably relax on this 4 hour scenic round trip route. We will have our own onboard hostess giving us information, answering questions, and telling us about local history. En-route we will be served a hot brunch. You will have a couple of choices of menu items prior to the trip. Fall is a lovely time to experience this route!
In Bryson City after the train excursion, we will have a little time to browse the train museum, as well as the town history museum before boarding our coach to begin the ride home. We will take a different route back toward Atlanta, stopping for a couple of hours late afternoon in the lovely town of Blue Ridge, Georgia. You will have time for browsing the quaint shops and satisfying your hunger pangs at one of the many choice restaurants before the final ride back home.
